re•turn - when you turn to art you return - Zoe Map

In this stage vision, the artist becomes an actor of life, where human emotions are suspended and spiritual practices are the only way to dominate ego and instinct for a deeper awakening.

The fragile ecosystem, human supremacy, and the dark subject will be represented by repetition, merciful compassion, and empathy for the idealistic clumsiness of human life.

Metamorphosis of the continuing movement challenging the human condition, often overwhelmed, stuck, and disconnected from the surrounding; deeply represented by the voiceless body that poetically is ‘the dancer’. Are we still Alive or did some of us die without realizing it? The answer to this cosmic question gravitates through the spectator's perspective and interpretation of re•turn.

The Long Black Veil - Kym Bernazky is an artist living with the genetic marker for Huntington’s Disease. Though she’s not yet showing symptoms, The Long Black Veil explores the space between life and death and learning how to accept our shared fate. Even with the knowing that death hangs over us like a blanket. We exist side by side with death and still have the bravery to live on. This piece represents the space and time between life and death, the unknown and unknowing of that discombobulation. Humanity continues to bravely march/slither/dance on. The viewer and the performer are both important parts of the performance. The space in between them also represents that void between life and death. Much like the space between performer and audience comes alive when the audience begins to interpret/react/feel.

5-6 PM Chanel Matsunami Govreau

Infinity Apple" delves into the meditative act of cutting an apple. The artist attempts to peel the skin off in one continuous piece, honoring their Japanese mother's gestures of love through precise fruit cutting. Wrestling with the challenge of emulating their mother's dexterity as a second-generation mixed Japanese American, the artist reflects on the significance of this cyclical act, affirming acts of love beyond Western expressions of physical affection.

Enhanced by a live microphone that amplifies the cutting, the experience immerses both the artist and the audience in the rhythmic and intimate process. Through the action of apple cutting, the artist confronts life's beginning, middle, and end—a reflection on the passage of time and the inevitable loss of the artist’s mother. As the blade slices through the apple's skin, the audience is encouraged to consider the fragility and transience of existence, preparing themselves for the eventual departure of a loved one or mourning a loss already endured.

6-8 PM Performances Erin Ko & Kanami Kusajima

Kanami Kusajima: Let Hair Down is Kusajima’s handle as a street performer.  She combines interpretive improvisation dance and abstract sumi (=Japanese calligraphy ink) painting in one performance.

Erin Ko: Erin Ko and friends perform songs, spoken word, and a ritual from The Verse, Ko’s experimental mixed reality mystic rock opera. https://www.erinkostudios.com/sm9stwfm/
